Established way back in 1912, the National Taipei University of Technology has gone through many name changes but it has always remained a great source of learning for students across Taipei. It currently assists over 10,000 students with their higher education learning, with over 450 faculty members serving them.

The National Taipei University of Technology is the place to be in Taiwan if you are learning everything from Mechanical Engineering to Chemical Engineering, and there are also degrees and courses in management, design and humanities.

The National Taipei University of Technology is located in the Da’an District, which is the most populated district in the city and is also the most lively. This is a great district for tourists, so if you head here to see the university then you will also have plenty of other things to see and do. One of the first places you should stop off at after seeing the National Taipei University of Technology, is the Da’an Forest Park, which offers some greenery and some serenity in the middle of this busy city.

There are also plenty of museums in the Da’an District, so get yourself to the Museum of Archives or the Museum of Zoology if you want to soak up some culture. As a tourist in the Da’an District you’ll also need a comfortable hotel, maybe with a bit of luxury on the side, and the following two hotels, located a stone’s throw from the National Taipei University of Technology, can help you there.

Hotel Eclat Taipei

The Hotel Eclat Taipei is a five-star hotel. This may cost a little bit more than some of the other hotels in the district, but if you have the money and you want the best of the best, then this is the place to be. This is an elegant and sophisticated hotel. It is one of the most beautiful hotels in the city, and that, along with the many amenities and services offered, is why this receives nothing but the best ratings from the vast majority of the guests that book a room here.

  • Airport Shuttle? No
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? Yes
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

There are only 60 rooms at the Hotel Eclat Taipei, with four options to choose from. These include the basic Deluxe King Room, all the way up to the Premier 9 King Room. All of these rooms have a long list of amenities, and these include a butler service and a Bang & Olufsen audio system — one of the most sought-after brands in the world.

The Hotel Eclat Taipei goes out of its way to offer its guest a premium and luxury service, and as well as an attentive 24-hour front desk, there is also a tour desk that can help you get around the city. The staff at the tour desk can arrange for bus tours and they can also recommend attractions and restaurants. If you would prefer to eat within the hotel then the Eclat Lounge serves some Western favorites, and once your appetite is sated then you can enjoy a relaxing drink at the George Bar.

Dandy Hotel-Daan Park Branch

The Dandy Hotel-Daan Park Branch is a fairly small but cozy hotel that has been rated four-stars by those in the know, and also have scores of great ratings from the many tourists that have passed through this hotel over the last few years. This is a beautiful city and with so much going on and with so much to explore, the Da’an District and the Dandy Hotel-Daan Park Branch is a great way to get the most out of it.

  • Airport Shuttle? Yes
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? No
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

All of the rooms at the Dandy Hotel-Daan Park Branch are fitted with 42-inch televisions. This is impressive, and although you shouldn’t pick your hotel based on the size of the TV, it certainly helps. You didn’t travel halfway around the world to watch television, but at the same time, if you’re relaxing on an evening then you don’t want a TV that you have to squint to see. There is definitely no squinting with these TVs, and they also come with cable channels and a DVD player, with plenty of DVDs stocked at the front desk for that quiet night-in.

There is a self-service laundry service at the Dandy Hotel-Daan Park Branch, perfect for long stays and for when you want to travel light, and there is also a business center on site, where guests can make use of fax and photocopying services. There is also a bar onsite and during the winter season guests are served free hot drinks to help them keep the cold at bay.

The Taipei National University of the Arts is located in the district of Beitou, more famously known for having one of the highest densities of hot springs and natural spas in the world. This university is greatly respected and has been one of the leading learning centers in the city since it was founded in the early 1980s. This is one of the main places to study the arts in Taipei, winning the Excellence Award from the Ministry of Education for five successive years, and producing students that have gone onto do great things both in Taipei and on the International stage.

It’s not all about the Taipei National University of the Arts either. If you find yourself in this region then you will have plenty to see, experience and do. This is one of the most popular districts for local and International tourists and although it doesn’t have the high-energy clubs and attractions that make some of the other districts so popular, it is a great place to relax and enjoy a more laid-back holiday.

Grand View Resort Beitou

The Grand View Resort Beitou may not look like much from the outside, with a flat and rather imposing facade, but inside this is the sort of luxury that can make any holiday one to remember. The Grand View Resort Beitou is a five-star hotel located right next to the many hot springs that make this region famous. It is also just a short drive away from many other great attractions and a stone’s throw from the Taipei National University of the Arts, where some of Taiwan’s brightest young talent hone their craft.

There are only 27 rooms available at the Beitou Hot Spring Resort, so if you want to book yourself in here then you will need to book well in advance. This also means that there aren’t many room types to choose from, with guests able to choose between a Classic Twin and a Deluxe Double. Despite the limited number of rooms, the hotel is far from small and the rooms themselves are spacious, packed with all of the amenities you need for a comfortable stay.

As far as location goes, the Beitou Hot Spring Resort is a stone’s throw from the best restaurants and the best hot springs that this region has to offer.

Named after a Chinese philosopher, the National Yang Ming University was founded in 1975, albeit with a different name. This university conducts a great deal of research and is famous for its work in the sciences, particularly in medicine. The National Yang Ming University is located in the active Beitou District, which is located in the north of Taipei City.

There are many big education centers, including schools such as the Fu Hsing College, the National Defense University and the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Science, not to mention the scores of prestigious high schools and junior schools.

This area is also popular with tourists, and not just because of the National Yang Ming University or the other education centers. The main reason that tourists flock here are the spas and hot springs, which Beitou is famous for. In fact, this region has one of the highest concentrations of spas and hot springs in the world — you are literally surrounded by them. These two go hand in hand, because what better way to relax after a hard day of studying than to soak and relax in a hot spring?

In this article we will look at the best hotels in this area, ensuring that you have somewhere comfortable and affordable to stay during your visit to the Beitou District and to the National Yang Ming University.

Grand View Resort Beitou

The Grand View Resort Beitou is as good as it gets in this region. It is a five-star hotel that is ideally located and has been designed by a renowned architect who also designed the iconic Taipei 101 building, which you might come across on your travels, and which all tourists to Taipei are advised to visit.

The many rooms include Superior Double Rooms and Superior Twin Rooms, along with Junior Suites and Luxury Suites. If you’re here for that extra special occasion then you can even book into the Bridal Suite. They don’t have many of their special rooms though so if you fancy staying in a five-star suite during your visit to Beitou, then make sure you book well in advance.

  • Airport Shuttle? Yes
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? Yes
  • Fitness Center? Yes
  • Restaurants? Yes

That’s not to say that it isn’t comfortable or that it doesn’t have a few luxuries to offer you. In fact, as far as three-star hotels go, you will struggle to find one that is more comfortable and with more facilities than the Sweet Me Hot Spring Resort.

  • Airport Shuttle? Yes

  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? Yes

Located in Taipei City and founded in 1927 (although it was relocated to its current spot in later years), the National Chengchi University is a jewel in the educational crown of the Republic of China. The National Chengchi University produces many graduates who go on to work in government jobs, and the rate of graduates that go on to find full-time employment in general is very high.

Around the university you won’t find a lot of attractions that appeal to tourists, but it will give you a taste of the real Taipei, and many travelers prefer this. Also, if you take a short train or car journey, then you can find attractions that tourists flock to, such as the Shilin Night Market and the Taipei 101, two of the most popular attractions in the entire city.

There are not a great deal of hotels to choose from in this area, as this is typically not a tourist region. However, if you venture a little future out of the district then there is a lot more to see. This includes the Holiday Inn East Taipei, which is a 4-star hotel that is around 3 miles away from the university, and the Dandy Hotel Daan, which is around 5 miles away. We have stuck with the theme for this article though and both of the hotels below can be found within walking distance of the National Chengchi University, which is located in the Wenshan District.

Times Nagasaki Hotel

The Times Nagasaki provides guests with a comfortable and affordable base for their trip to Taipei, and their stay in the Wenshan District. Despite only being a 2.5 star hotel, there is a lot of extras on offer here that warrant a much higher rating, and the hotel has also been highly praised by the many guests that have passed through their doors over the years.

  • Airport Shuttle? No
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? No
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

Cleanliness is important to the Times Nagasaki Hotel and all of the rooms, and the hotel itself, are immaculate from floor to ceiling. They are also spacious and open, with little clutter. All rooms are air conditioned, to keep the heat of the city at bay, and they all come with tea and coffee making facilities and a free bottle of water.

All guests can enjoy the use of a private bathroom, which come with either a bathtub or a shower, with a hair dryer available in all of them. High-speed internet is available throughout the hotel, so there is no early mornings spent hanging out of the hotel window trying to find a strong signal, and check-in begins at 12:00pm, which is one of the earliest check-in times that you will find in the entire city.

The Times Nagasaki Hotel is also ideally located, a short trek from public transport options and from some great places to eat, drink, shop and explore. The Times Nagasaki Hotel also has a business center, fitted with computers and everything else you could need to stage a small presentation, a small meeting, or to catch up with your business errands.

Ouiinn Guesthouse

The Ouiinn Guesthouse offers 2.5 star rated accommodation; a complete, comfortable and affordable guesthouse that many of the students attending the aforementioned university would like. This is as basic as it gets, but that also makes it very cheap and for some, that is ideal. That’s not to say that the Ouiinn Guesthouse is not clean or comfortable, because it is. The owners have gone to great lengths to make use of the space available to them, and you will actually find bigger rooms here than in many of the more upscale hotels in other areas of the city.

  • Airport Shuttle? No
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? No
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

As a guesthouse, there is an extra emphasis on comfort and a homely service. Check-in is late, at 4:00pm, but you can phone ahead and request an early check-in if you are running early. On many occasions you will find that they will do their best to accommodate you. There are not many rooms at the Ouiinn Guesthouse, so if this sounds like what you fancy then try and book a room as soon as you can. As we said above, there isn’t a great deal of choice around here in terms of accommodation, so during the peak holiday seasons it is very difficult to find rooms available at the Ouiinn Guesthouse and at other hotels and guesthouses as well.

Once you’re settled and suitably refreshed inside the hotel, then you can head out and enjoy everything that the surrounding area has to offer, with plenty in the way of cafes, restaurants and bars.

National Taiwan University is a research university located in Taipei, one of the most popular universities in Taiwan, and one of the most respected as well. The National Taiwan University has been around since 1928, although it became the building it is today in 1945, following the end of the Second World War.

If you’re heading to Taipei to visit this prestigious university, then you’ll need to head for the Da’an district, where its main campus is located. Luckily, there are plenty of things to do in this district and it usually attracts a large number of tourists because of this. As well as being one of the main educational districts, it is also a commercial and cultural hub. This is made evident by attractions such as the amphitheater, the Taipei Hakka Culture Hall, The Mongolian and Tibetan Cultural Center and much more.

This is also a great place to shop, one of the popular past-times of many people that visit this area and can’t get enough of the local produce and knick knacks. If you tire of the local food, or if it is not to your liking, then this area is also rich in International restaurants, serving everything from American food to Japanese and Italian food.

With that in mind, and with your tastebuds tingling for the National Taiwan University and the Da’an District that surrounds it, where are the best places to stay?

Hotel Eclat Taipei

If only the best will do, if your idea of a perfect holiday is one spent in the cozy and luxurious surroundings of an award-winning five-star hotel, then the Hotel Eclat Taipei could be just what you are looking for.

  • Airport Shuttle? No
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? Yes

Hotel Eclat Taipei bucks the trend of grand and imposing 5-star hotels. This hotel is actually one of the smallest in the district, with just 60 rooms. All of these rooms have all of the amenities you would expect, and so much more besides. They come with an audio system, but not just any audio system. It is a Bang & Olufsen audio system, one of the most prestigious names in the industry. There is also room service, but again, this isn’t just room service. All guests will get their own personal butler who is on hand to provide them with whatever they need.

All rooms also come with a Nespresso coffee machine, and if you are keen to settle in early then you can even check-in whilst you are in your room. There is free parking and free Wi-Fi available to all guests at the Hotel Eclat Taipei, and there is also an onsite restaurant and bar, where food and drink is served exclusively to guests everyday.

This may be a small hotel, but once you are inside, one you’re sampling some of the finest luxury that this city has to offer, then you probably won’t notice and you certainly won’t care.

RF Hotel

Size is important in Taipei, as you will discover. Space is at a premium in this city and, like many other big cities around the world, that can mean that many of the hotel rooms are on the small side. It is not uncommon to see huge hotels with hundreds of small rooms all packed together. The Hotel Eclat Taipei we mentioned above is not like that, catering for a small number of guests and doing their best to entertain each one, and the RF Hotel also breaks the mould.

This hotel actually has fewer rooms than the Hotel Eclat Taipei, with only 43 available. This means that the staff can spend more time ensuring the needs of each guest are met, but it means that if you want to book yourself a room, you may need to book early.

  • Airport Shuttle? No
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? No
  • Restaurants? Yes
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

The RF Hotel is a three-star hotel by name only, as this is a highly rated hotel that never fails to please. It is one of the most highly rated hotels in this area and it is also one of our favorites. It is very affordable, and yet it doesn’t skimp on the basic amenities. If you have children then it might be even more affordable, as 1 child under the age of six is able to stay for free.

All of the rooms at the RF Hotel are air conditioned and carpeted. They all have a comfortable seating area and a private bathroom, and some of them have bath tubs. The RF Hotel is a short drive from many great shops, so bring plenty of spending money and leave plenty of room in your suitcase.

Considered to be one of Taiwan’s elite learning centers, the National Taiwan Normal University is a university centre steeped in tradition, and one where educational excellence is the order of the day. Located in the Da’an District of Taipei, the National Taiwan Normal University was founded in 1946 and has been drawing visitors to this city ever since.

If you’re heading for the university on business, education or pleasure, or you simply want to stop by and drink in this great and historic building whilst you’re in the area, then one of the best ways to do so is to stay at a nearby hotel. In this article we will focus on the best hotels that are located within walking distance of the National Taiwan Normal University, so you don’t have to do much or travel far in order to get here.

Madison Taipei

The Madison Taipei is a five star hotel that deserves every bit of praise that goes its way. This is as good as it gets if you’re looking for some luxury during your visit to the National Taiwan Normal University, so much so that you might never want to leave your hotel room.

Before we get into the meat of what makes this hotel so exceptional, let’s cover the basics:

  • Airport Shuttle? Yes
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? Yes
  • Restaurants? Yes
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

There are 124 luxury rooms at the Madison Taipei, all designed to the same high standard. These range from the Standard Double Rooms and Twin Rooms, to the Deluxe King Rooms and Deluxe Twin Rooms, all the way to the Skyline Suite. There aren’t many of these suites available and they attract a lot of interest, so if you want the best room in the best hotel, then you need to book well in advance. In fact, in the spring we checked some of the most popular summer and Autumn dates for the same year, and on none of those dates was this suite available.

The Madison Taipei is located in a vibrant part of the city, with plenty to see and do in the near vicinity. If you want to get away from it all, then the High Speed Rail Station is just a short walk away. If you would prefer to stay in the hotel, then there is an onsite fitness centre to keep you active, a restaurant to keep you fed, and all of the rooms have a flat-screen television to keep you entertained. Guests can also make use of a tour desk, where knowledgable and experienced locals can advise of the best attractions in the city, and can also arrange for bus tours and special offers.

Vendome Hotel

If a five-star hotel is more of a dream than a reality, then don’t worry as you can get all you need elsewhere. The Vendome Hotel, for instance, is only a three-star, but it offers everything you could need for a great stay in this beautiful city. With rooms that boast some of the best views of Taipei, and dark and cozy ambiance that runs throughout the hotel, the Vendome was designed to make you feel as safe and as comfortable as you do at home.

  • Airport Shuttle? Yes
  • Free WiFi? Yes
  • Pool? No
  • Fitness Center? Yes
  • Restaurants? Yes
  • Near Public Transport? Yes

The airport shuttle is not free and you will need to pay a surcharge, but this is common practice for many hotels that are on the airport’s doorstep. If you are planning on renting a car for your trip then the Vendome Hotel can accommodate you with private parking, although this will cost you 400 TWD and you need to phone them in advance to reserve a space. Wi-Fi is free throughout the building and the 24-hour front desk can assist you in several ways, from a fax and photocopying service, to a luggage storage service and to a dry cleaning and laundry service. There is also a business centre located within the Vendome Hotel, which is ideal if you have a meeting to stage, a presentation to run or some business to attend to.

There are 91 rooms in the Vendome Hotel, and although there are no suites available, guests can stay in the Deluxe Double Rooms and Deluxe Twin Rooms for some extra luxury. Both of these offer views of the city, whereas the Standard Double Rooms do not, and do not even have a window. All of the rooms come fitted with a flat-screen television and this has cable channels available. All rooms are also air-conditioned and decorated in a modern style, and guests at the Vendome are invited to the dining room each morning where they can feast on a buffet breakfast.
